Updated: Aug 17, 2023

You will survive these ones!

Spring has arrived, and people are actually able to stay outside for more than 5 minutes without getting all wet or dying of cold!! And with that, the interest in exploring the surroundings of Vancouver has arrived as well.

As you know, Vancouver is a city where outdoors people thrive. There are lots of things to do here ! But one of the things people love the most around here is hiking. If by any chance you don’t know what that is, well, it’s just a fancy word for a “long walk” and it’s usually related to walking in the country or the wilderness, but it’s just a long walk regardless. However, people here take it pretty seriously! With the amount of wilderness around Vancouver and the number of trails to explore, there’s no wonder why! That being said, if you are just a beginner in this thing, we bring you the top 8 beginner-friendly hikes you could try out ! You won’t even need to have special shoes or a hiking backpack for these, so don’t worry .😉

Twin Falls

Super beautiful hike this one!! Located in North Vancouver, it’s a circuit-like hike that crosses the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge and follows Lynn Creek down the river before crossing wooden bridge and looping back on the opposite side of the canyon. However, even though it is considered an easy hike, this one requires you to have decent physical stamina, comfortable shoes and tons of water. The terrain presents lots of elevation.

Quarry Rock

One of the most popular hikes for beginners and it’s definitely worth it! The trail is just over 3.5kms; it’s pretty easy to follow and takes about an hour and a half to complete. With an elevation gain of 100-meters, you will encounter a loooot of stairs throughout the trail, so be mentally prepared for it 😂. Even though it ’s not that physically demanding, you can always rest a couple of times on your way to the top.

Located in the beautiful community of Deep Cove, the peak of the trail lets you have a unique (and super Instagrammable ) view! Don’t forget to reward yourself with a sweet treat from Honey Doughnuts afterwards, they are delicious and you’ve earned it 😍

Whyte Lake

Easy yet beautiful spot for a hike. Whyte Lake is a small lake located in West Vancouver, and it offers around 5km of easy trails for you to enjoy. It takes about 2 hours for you to complete the whole trail, and it’s quite easy on your feet as there are no steep hills or crazy stairs for you to overcome (except for the beginning of the trail, other than that, you’re good to go).

Cypress Falls Park

Easy to do and easy to get to, the Cypress Falls Park offers a trail you can get to by transit. Located in West Vancouver, it’s a small beautiful trail that offers a 3km roundtrip hike. It takes you around 1.5 hours to complete, and it’s totally worth your time! Perfect for dog lovers too, as it is a dog-friendly trail.

Pacific Spirit Park

Fantastic option for a hike! As you will feel completely immersed in the park’s wilderness even though, in reality, you will still be in Vancouver! Located in West Point Grey, right next to UBC, the Pacific Spirit Regional Park offers over 3 km of trails for you to enjoy, all relatively easy to get by, and the duration of your hike will depend on which paths you take while you visit the park.

Lynn Loop

Another beautiful trail to which you can reach by transit😉 (perfect for international students who just arrived or are living on a budget). It offers 5km of trail, and it’s, as its name suggest , a loop, and it would take you around 1.5 hours t o complete the whole trail.

Whytecliff Park

Not considered actually a “hike” by many people because of it s simplicity but Whytecliff Park definitely has its charm! This is not only one of the best hikes for beginners, as it only takes around 1.5 hours to complete, but it offers the opportunity for you to pick which type of experience you would like to have, either having a beautiful hike through the woods or a hike alongside the beach.

Lighthouse Park

No matter which you choose, we are sure you are gonna have a great time ! Probably one of the most famous hikes around! Not only is it beautiful and it offers you a great Instagrammable view of the lighthouse, but it’s also quite easy to do and it offers a network of trails of over 6 kms to explore! Super recommended for spring or summer! It’s also a great option for having a picnic with your significant other.😍
